# Loan Status as "Accepted" instead of "Committed"

In cases like this, it is best if you reach out to [DESE ](https://www.dese.gov.au/about-us/contact-us)for an explanation. There is not much information available to clarify the precise triggers for when a student loan goes from accepted to committed.

Potentially, this may be a HECS-specific issue if the student example has an [E490 ](https://www.tcsisupport.gov.au/element/490)value of 201 meaning they “Deferred all or part of the student contribution through HECS‑HELP”. The amount being deferred is equal to the total tuition fee of the unit so there is nothing left over for the student to incur a loan fee against. Perhaps that is the distinction between accepted vs committed. There is nothing to commit as such, so it says as accepted.
