Print a Student Card
Overview
This workflow assumes that you have access to a card printer for printing student cards and that your institution has already had a template set up.
If a template has not been set up, please contact the Silverband Support Team.
Printer Preference
Whichever printer you choose must be able to print a PDF document because that is what is generated from Paradigm. As we don't need to print student cards for ourselves, we can only offer general advice about what you are likely to need. The best places to search are your local IT or network team members or your IT hardware provider. You may also discover dedicated ID card printer suppliers. The general advice we can offer is:
Double-side printing is often desirable
The cost of consumables varies greatly, so factor in the total cost of ownership what it will take to run it for a period of time
Having a printer on the network is more convenient than having one that is only connected to a single computer
Chipped cards are considerably more expensive than non-chipped cards. If you are using chipped cards for building access then ensure that the chips are compatible with the printer
The more expensive machines will apply a protective film or coating over the printed surface. This ensures the detail remains readable for longer.
Ensure that it supports the printing of standard credit card-size objects. The standard credit card size is ID-1, a size that is also commonly referred to as CR80. A standard CR80 credit card has the following dimensions: width of 3.37 inches (85.6 mm) height of 2.125 (53.98 mm)
