Major and Minor Constraint Types

Overview

If the Course that you are offering has Major pathways and Minor options, refer to the step-by-step instructions below on how you can implement it in Paradigm.

Workflow

  1. Add the major and minor code items via the System > Edit Code Items menu. Refer to the instructions on how to Add a Code Item in Paradigm for a more detailed workflow.

    • Add the major items under this Code Type Id "STUDY_AREA" or "STUDY_MAJOR"

    • Add the minor items under this Code Type Id "STUDY_SPECIALISATION" or "STUDY_MINOR"

These code items will appear in the dropdown when you enrol a Student on a Course and specify their Course Major or Minor Study option:

  1. After adding the Major and Minor Code Items in the system, in the Course Outline, do the following:

    1. Add the Major or Minor Units as a Core Unit in the Course Outline, see Step 2 - Add the Units that make up the Course as Core or Elective for a more detailed workflow. You have the option to group the Units based on their type, e.g. grouping Major units in one row of the Course Plan.

    2. Add the Major or Minor Constraint Type for each Unit that you want to categorise as Major or Minor. Refer to the instructions on this workflow: Adding Major or Minor Constraint Type

  2. After setting up your Course Outline, enrol the Student on the Course with their specified Course Major Study or Course Minor Study. If they are already enrolled on the Course, edit the field called Course Major Study or Course Minor Study accordingly.

When the Student views the Course Plan, the Units set as Majors on the enrolled Course Major Study will appear as enrollable,

or else, disallowed.

The same logic applies to Minor studies.
