Change a Scheduled Unit to Flexible Learning

Flexible Learning is intended for VET and ELICOS providers who require the option of storing dates at a Unit Enrolment that are different to the dates set on the associated Scheduled Unit. In Paradigm under normal circumstances, the Start Date, Expected End Date and Census Date at a Unit Enrolment are the same as the dates set on the associated Scheduled Unit.

You need to have the highest system permission level to access this function.

The use of the Flexible Learning mode should not be taken lightly due to the implications for business operations including government reporting. A user will need to possess the highest system permission level to set the Flexible Learning field.

Flexible Learning in the context of Paradigm functions is unrelated to Scheduled Units that operate in a blended or flexible delivery mode.

WARNING:

The use of flexible learning has significant implications for how enrolment dates are managed within Paradigm. This feature is normally not appropriate for Higher Education providers. It's highly advisable to consult with a member of the Silverband Support team before enabling Flexible Learning for a scheduled unit. This is due to variations in rules and requirements across different government department systems.

Workflow

  1. Search for the Scheduled Unit record that you want to set as Flexible Learning, see Search a Scheduled Unit.

  2. Once the Scheduled Unit to be set is loaded, edit the following fields:

    • End Date - Set this date field accordingly.

    • Flexible Learning - Set it to Yes.

  3. Click the SAVE SCHEDULED UNIT button to save your changes.

Key considerations for each Unit Enrolment record enrolled in the Flexible Learning-enabled Scheduled Unit:

  • Upon Unit Enrolment, the Unit Enrolments Start and Expected End dates will be set by default to the student’s Course Enrolment Start and End dates.

  • It is mandatory (not optional) to set the Start and Expected End dates at the Unit Enrolment level to accurately reflect the study period for the units.

  • Leaving the Unit Enrolments with Start and End dates identical to their Course Enrolment is not permissible, as per government mandate prior to VSL regulations.
