# Add New Communication Sender

This page contains instructions on how to add a new communication sender when sending communications in Paradigm

## Overview

Users may wish to send students a communication event on behalf of a provider that is not linked to a student's profile or course enrolment. An example of this might be an Accounting department sending correspondence to students from a generic email address. Paradigm supports this by giving you the option to add that specific department/group in your business or institution as a provider record in the system with a specific role assigned to it and containing the email address that you wish to use as the sender's email address. This article will guide you on how to add a sender to your communication event screen.

## Workflow

To add an email address/specific department in your business or institution/Provider as an option to choose as the sender of your communications, you need to create a new Provider record for that group/department and assign the Paradigm role of **Communication Sender** to that provider record. These steps show you how to do it:

1. To load the existing Provider record if you have one already created in the system, refer to the instructions on [How to Load a Provider Record](/home/paradigm-knowledge-base/providers-and-contacts/workflows/provider/search-for-a-provider-record.md). If you don't yet have an existing Provider record in the system, you need to create one as described here: [How to Create or Add a New Provider Record](/home/paradigm-knowledge-base/providers-and-contacts/workflows/provider/add-a-provider-record.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
**NOTE**:

Make sure that the email address is added in the provider details under the **Email** field. For the purposes of a communication event, the sender's email address is an element of the provider record rather than an element of either the Billing or Residential Contact Details record related to the provider.
{% endhint %}

2. After loading or after you’ve added the new provider record, assign the Paradigm role to it as a **Communication Sender**. Refer to the instructions in this article on [How to Assign a Role to a Provider](/home/paradigm-knowledge-base/providers-and-contacts/workflows/provider/assign-roles-to-a-provider-record.md). You should now have a provider record with a role as a **Communication Sender** in the system.

3. With that Provider record created/updated with **Communication Sender** as an assigned role, when you go to the **Communications** menu, you should now see that provider name as one of the options in the **From** field.
